Momentum shifted in a tight game when Sweden successfully killed a 5-on-3 Czechia power play in the first period. Zeb Forsfjäll opened the scoring shortly after, tipping in a point shot from Axel Sandin-Pellikka with 2:09 to play in the frame.
Sweden continued to pressure Czechia in the second period and Noel Nordh wired a shot upstairs on goaltender Michael Hrabal for a 2-0 lead.
Jacob Štancl tallied Czechia’s first goal at the 12:56 mark of the middle stanza. Noah Dower Nilsson pointed to the sky after scoring Sweden’s third of the game, embraced heartedly by his teammates, clearly full of emotion.
Czechia got within one early in the third on a shorthanded breakaway goal by Jiri Felcman, but Sweden pulled away with an empty-netter and two from Stenberg to seal the win and send Sweden to the final.
Sweden will now take on hosts Canada for the gold medal at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Saturday at 4 p.m. MT.
