At the WJAC: Talbot was the goaltender of choice for Canada East at the inaugural World Junior A Challenge in Yorkton and Humboldt, Sask., playing every second as East won its way to the gold medal game, allowing just a single goal in each game in wins over Slovakia, Germany, and Russia.

Canada West finally solved Talbot in the gold medal game, taking a 4-0 lead by the time the game reached its midway mark, but the Caledonia, Ont., native settled in and allowed his team to get to within a goal before a 4-3 loss left East with a silver medal.

After the WJAC: Not selected at the NHL Entry Draft, Talbot headed south for three seasons at the University of Alabama Huntsville, leading the Chargers to a CHA title and a berth in the NCAA tournament in 2009-10 before he was signed as a free agent by the New York Rangers in the spring of 2010.

Talbot spent three seasons with the AHL’s Connecticut Whale, making sporadic appearances with the Rangers but never seeing game action. He finally made his NHL debut on Oct. 24, 2013, and posted a 33-15-5 record, with a 2.00 GAA and eight shutouts while serving for two seasons as the back-up to Henrik Lundqvist before an offseason trade sent him to the Edmonton Oilers last summer.
