At the WJAC: Riding shotgun with Camrose teammate (and World Junior A Challenge MVP) Mike Connolly, Colborne led the way for Canada West at historic Cominco Arena in Trail, B.C., in 2007, recording seven points in five games as the westerners returned to the gold medal game.
Colborne was at his best in the medal round, picking up two assists in a quarter-final win over Belarus, and a goal and two helpers in a semifinal victory over the United States before scoring an insurance goal on the power play in the final to help Canada West to a 4-1 win over Canada East and a second consecutive gold.
After the WJAC: After leading Camrose to a second consecutive appearance at the RBC Cup, Canada’s National Junior A Championship, in 2008, Colborne headed south to the University of Denver, playing two seasons with the Pioneers before turning pro following his sophomore year.
The Calgary, Alta., native first joined the Boston Bruins, the team that drafted him 16th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, before a trade-deadline deal to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011, and another trade, this time to his hometown Flames, in 2013. Now in his third full season in Calgary, Colborne is a steady contributor to the Flames’ forward corps, anchoring the team’s third (and sometimes second) line.
