HENDERSON, Nev. – Canada’s National Women’s Team opened the second leg of the Rivalry Series with a 3-2 win over the United States on Thursday night in Henderson.

“The one thing we have shown over the last couple of years is that we can find ways to win in many different ways. It’s not always going to look pretty or wide open offensively. In Denmark (at the world championship) we found a way to win by grinding it out and I thought tonight’s game was very similar – grind it out, win battles on the wall, try to get some pucks to the net; it’s not always pretty, but you have to do it sometimes.”
“The U.S came in surges, at the start of the game with a few opportunities on power plays, then we pushed back before they came with another surge at the end. It’s all about staying focused on the puck and the play and not letting your brain wander. Against them you want to be good with your rebound control because they have a lot of skilled players that can put the puck in the net. My mentality is just to stay square to the puck, control the first shot and try not to give them any rebound chances.”
“After losing three straight it was a bit of a reality check for us. I don’t think our approach in the last series was where we needed it to be, so that served as a lesson for us and one we needed. We took a lot of time in between those games and tonight to figure out what we could all do better on the ice but more importantly off the ice to make us feel more like a connected team. All the pieces fit tonight, and we executed our game plan on the ice.”
