Jade Iginla to miss 2022 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship

After suffering an upper-body injury in pre-tournament play, Jade Iginla will not play for Canada in Wisconsin.

MADISON, Wis. – Hockey Canada announced ahead of its tournament opener tonight that forward Jade Iginla (Lake Country, B.C./RHA Kelowna, CSSHL) will miss the 2022 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship with an upper-body injury.

Iginla, who was set to make her international debut with Team Canada, was injured in a 3-1 pre-tournament loss to the United States on Thursday.

“Jade has made an enormous impact on our team, and while it is extremely disappointing she won’t be able to compete along with her teammates, we know she will continue to have a positive influence within our dressing room,” said Gina Kingsbury (Rouyn-Noranda, Que.), director of hockey operations with Hockey Canada. “We are all extremely disappointed for Jade; she is a hard-working, fierce competitor and leader among our group. We are hopeful she makes a quick recovery and look forward to her having the chance to represent Canada again in the future.”

In addition to its opener against Finland at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT, Canada will also face Sweden on June 7 at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT before its preliminary-round finale against the United States on June 9 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. TSN and RDS, the official broadcast partners of Hockey Canada, will broadcast 12 and nine games, respectively, from LaBahn Arena, including the quarterfinals, semifinals and medal-round games; check local listings for details.
