Canada finalizes roster for final three Rivalry Series games

Canada has unveiled the 23 who will wear the Maple Leaf for the final three games on the West Coast.

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada has named 23 of the country’s top players to Canada’s National Women’s Team for the final three games of the Rivalry Series, Feb. 3-8 in Victoria and Vancouver, B.C., and Anaheim, Calif.

Canada’s roster was selected by head coach Troy Ryan (Spryfield, N.S.) and Gina Kingsbury (Rouyn-Noranda, Que.), director of women’s national teams, with support from head scout Melody Davidson (Oyen, Alta.) and Hockey Canada’s regional scouts.

The roster features 19 players who participated in the first two games of the series in Hartford, Conn., and Moncton, N.B., in December (Bach, Clark, Daoust, Desbiens, Fast, Fortino, Gabel, Jenner, Johnston, Lacasse, Larocque, Maschmeyer, Mikkelson, Nurse, Poulin, Rougeau, Saulnier, Spooner, Turnbull).

“The Rivalry Series games in December gave our coaches and staff another opportunity to evaluate our players and assess the depth of our roster, while seeing where we are in terms of competitiveness against our strongest rival,” said Kingsbury. “We mutually agreed with USA Hockey not to include any student-athletes for these three games, and with that in mind have assembled a veteran line-up that will once again prove to be competitive against the United States. We will continue to evaluate our full group as we look towards competing at the world championship in Halifax.”

Tickets are available for as low as $18 at HockeyCanada.ca/Tickets. Group pricing options for 10 or more tickets are also available.

TSN and RDS, the official broadcast partners of Hockey Canada, will air all three games; check local listings for details.

The best-on-best competition between the cross-border rivals is the final tune-up for Canada’s National Women’s Team prior to the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Championship, set for March 31-April 10 in Halifax and Truro, N.S.

Canada has won 10 gold medals at the IIHF Women’s World Championship (1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2012), in addition to eight silver medals (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017) and one bronze (2019) and will look to stand atop the podium for the first time since 2012.

Fans can still take advantage of two ticket-package options, a 17-game pack for Halifax and a 16-game pack for Truro, now available at HockeyCanada.ca/Tickets.
