2008 Telus Cup Award Winners Announced - Semi-Finals Set for Saturday

ARNPRIOR, ON – The 2008 TELUS Cup, Canada’s 30th National Midget Championship, held its awards banquet on Friday night in Arnprior, ON. The tournament’s awards committee named the recipients of the seven individual awards.

The awards were based on the tournament’s round robin, which ran from Monday to Friday.

The 2008 TELUS Cup award winners are:

TELUS Most Valuable Player – Mathew Bodie – Winnipeg Thrashers
Top Goaltender – Kris Moore – Calgary Buffaloes
Top Forward – Mathieu Lecours – Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves
Top Defensive Player – Mathew Bodie – Winnipeg Thrashers
Most Sportsmanlike Player – Jordan Burke – Cole Harbour McCains
Top Scorer – Mark Stone – Winnipeg Thrashers
Esso Scholarship – Liam Burtt – Ottawa Valley Titans

After an exciting week of round-robin play, the semi-finals are set for Saturday, April 26. The Winnipeg Thrashers, who completed a perfect round-robin with a 5-4 win over Sudbury on Friday and are 57-1 on the season, face the Séminaire Saint-François Blizzard at 2:00 p.m. ET, followed by the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves taking on the Calgary Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m. ET. Both games will take place at the Nick Smith Centre.

The bronze medal game will go at 11:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, April 27, followed by the gold medal game at 4:00 p.m. ET. Both of the meda games will take place at the Nick Smith Centre. The gold medal game can be seen on TSN/RDS, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada, beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.
