3 STARS OF THE DAY – SUNDAY, APRIL 26

1. Dalton Ewing (Toronto)
Ewing made it back-to-back First Star nods, turning in another lights-out performance, this time to lead the Young Nationals to their first TELUS Cup title. The Toronto netminder made 17 saves in the first period while his team jumped out to a huge 4-0 lead, and finished with 35 stops to beat the tournament’s top two preliminary round teams on consecutive days.

2. Maxime Comtois (Châteauguay)
Comtois took up residence in the 3 Stars of the Day, earning a place in four of the last five days on the back of five consecutive multi-point efforts – including nine goals – to help the Grenadiers to another silver medal finish. Comtois was at it again Sunday, registering points on both Châteauguay goals, although his team came up one win short.

3. Arthur Miller/Owen Sillinger/Riley Woods (Regina)
Why choose just one? The trio was unquestionably the best line all week, and finished their TELUS Cup experience by combining for another eight points to help the Pat Canadians to a bronze medal with a 6-3 win over Strathmore. Deadly on Regina’s top-ranked power play, Sillinger (17 points), Miller (14) and Woods (14) were one-three-four in tournament scoring.

3 STARS OF THE DAY – SATURDAY, APRIL 25

1. Dalton Ewing (Toronto)
Ewing’s day ended early when the Young Nationals clashed with Regina in the preliminary round; he got the hook after allowing four goals on 10 shots in not even 21 minutes of work last Monday. But the netminder bounced back in a big way in Saturday’s semifinal, holding the Pat Canadians’ top-ranked offence to just a single goal and helping Toronto advance.

2. Justin Herman (Toronto)
One of six returnees from 2014, Herman has done it all for the Young Nationals all week, and Saturday was no different; the Toronto forward was playing physical, blocking shots and killing penalties, and added two assists to his team-leading point total to lead the Central Region champions past first-place Regina and into Sunday’s gold medal game.

3. Maxime Comtois (Châteauguay)
Make it three appearances in four days on the 3 Stars list for Comtois, who continued to wield the hot hand for the Grenadiers in their semifinal win over Strathmore. He scored another goal – his eighth in four games – and added two more assists, moving to second in tournament scoring and leading the Grenadiers to a second straight berth in the gold medal game.

3 STARS OF THE DAY – FRIDAY, APRIL 24

1. Cameron MacLeod (Newbridge Academy)
MacLeod made his final minor hockey game a memorable one, scoring once and adding an assist to help the Gladiators to a hard-fought 3-3 tie with the unbeaten Regina Pat Canadians. One of Newbridge Academy’s veteran leaders – he’s one of only three 1997-born players – MacLeod doubled his point total from the entire tournament on Friday.

2. Cody Campbell (Strathmore)
Making his first start in 69 days – since Strathmore’s AMHL regular season finale on Feb. 15 – Campbell stepped back between the pipes and didn’t miss a beat, making 40 saves to lead the Bisons to a 5-3 win over Toronto and clinch third place. Campbell was clutch down the stretch for Strathmore, making 17 of his saves in the final 20 minutes.

3. Jake Tesarowski (Regina)
Tesarowski earned the tournament’s Top Defensive Player award at Friday night’s awards banquet, and it wasn’t a huge shock to anyone. The Pat Canadians defenceman had two more assists in Friday’s 3-3 tie with Newbridge Academy, registered his fourth multi-point effort of the preliminary round and ran his point streak to five games in a row.

3 STARS OF THE DAY – THURSDAY, APRIL 23

1. Arthur Miller (Regina)
Linemates Owen Sillinger and Riley Woods had their share of headlines through three days, sitting one-two in tournament scoring, but Miller stepped up with his best performance on Thursday, scoring twice in the second period – one on the power play, one shorthanded – to give the Pat Canadians the lead for good, and adding two assists for good measure.

2. Maxime Comtois (Châteauguay)
When your team earns a 4-1 win and you are in on all four goals, odds are it’s been a good day at the rink. Comtois kept up his hot streak in the Grenadiers’ victory over the Toronto Young Nationals, scoring three times – all on the power play – and adding an assist to give him five goals and six points in the last two games, both Châteauguay wins.

3. Kurtis Chapman (Strathmore)
The Bisons goaltender was solid once again for the Pacific Region champions, stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced in a win over the Newbridge Academy Gladiators – the fourth time in as many starts he has made at least 25 saves. Chapman was spectacular against the Gladiators, making saves with his back and throwing in an old-school pad stack or two.

3 STARS OF THE DAY – WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22

1. Maxime Comtois (Châteauguay)
The Grenadiers forward picked an opportune time for his first goals of the 2015 TELUS Cup, finding the back of the net twice in an important win over Newbridge Academy that put Châteauguay on the brink of a semifinal spot. Comtois was the Grenadiers’ leading scorer in the regular season and playoffs, combining for 87 points in 47 games.

2. Owen Sillinger (Regina)
The tournament’s leading scorer entering the day’s play, Sillinger increased his advantage thanks to a goal and two assists in a come-from-behind win over Strathmore that kept the Pat Canadians perfect. The Regina captain picked up all three of his points on Regina’s vaunted power play, which is clicking at an impressive 28.6% rate (8-for-28) in three games.

3. James Guest (Toronto)
Guest delivered a clutch performance when the Young Nationals needing it on Wednesday, opening the scoring late in the first period before netting the game-winner with just 3:32 to go, lifting Toronto past Collège Notre-Dame and closer to a semifinal spot. Guest sits second in defenceman scoring, trailing only Jake Tesarowski of Regina.

3 STARS OF THE DAY – TUESDAY, APRIL 21

1. Clarke Flegel (Regina)
The Pat Canadians netminder made the most of his first start at Canada’s National Midget Championship, stopping each and every one of the 29 shots directed his way in a 5-0 win over the Grenadiers de Châteauguay. Flegel played a key role on the penalty kill, as goaltenders usually do, keeping Châteauguay goalless in five power play opportunities.

2. Max Routledge (Toronto)
As one of the six returnees from last year’s TELUS Cup in the Young Nationals’ line-up, Routledge knows exactly what it takes to win, and he led by example in a 5-2 win over Newbridge Academy, opening and closing the scoring, playing physical and helping the Central Region champions avoid back-to-back losses for the first time all season.

3. Kyle Gordon (Strathmore)
Six players had multi-point efforts in the Bisons’ 7-1 romp over Collège Notre-Dame, so there’s plenty to choose from, but Gordon was the standout. Combining with linemates Gary Haden and Barrett Sheen – who also managed three-point efforts – Gordon had two goals and an assist in a five-goal second period to help Strathmore to its first-ever TELUS Cup win.

3 STARS OF THE DAY – MONDAY, APRIL 20

1. Owen Sillinger (Regina)
The Pat Canadians captain proved his leadership with a four-point performance in a win over Toronto, scoring twice and adding two assists. One of the three Pat Canadians selected as a TELUS Cup Player to Watch by ISS, Sillinger got Regina started with a goal just 70 seconds after the puck dropped, and has the very early lead in the tournament scoring race.

2. Raphaël Bastille (Collège Notre-Dame)
Bastille was all over the ice and all over the scoresheet for the Albatros, finishing with two goals and an assist in the host team’s 4-0 victory over Newbridge Academy. A star in the face-off circle for Collège Notre-Dame, Bastille proved he was more than just a scorer, showing off a gritty, hard-nosed game at five-on-five, on the power play and on the penalty kill.

3. Riley Woods (Regina)
Another member of the Pat Canadians’ top line cracks the 3 Stars. Woods matched Owen Sillinger with four points, collecting a goal and three assists, along with Player of the Game honours for Regina. Known for his high hockey IQ and efficiency on the power play, Woods’ goal and one of his helpers came with the Pat Canadians enjoying the man advantage.
