GREEN GETS FIRST WIN AT U17 CAMP, BEATS WHITE FOR FIFTH

CALGARY, Alta. – Ty Dellandrea (Port Perry, Ont./Central Ontario, OMHA) led the way with a goal and three assists, propelling Green to its first win at Canada’s national under-17 development camp, 8-4 over White in the fifth-place game Monday.

Riley Damiani (Mississauga, Ont./Mississauga Rebels, GTHL) added two goals, and Nathan Dunkley (Campbellford, Ont./Quinte, OMHA), Eric Guest (Guelph, Ont./London, MHAO) and Jacob Herauf (Sherwood Park, Alta./Sherwood Park, AMHL) had a goal and a helper apiece for Green, which had scored only three goals in its first two games combined.

Elijah Brown (Edmonton, Alta./Edmonton SSAC, AMHL) had a goal and an assist for White, which finished winless after claiming the camp championship the last two years, albeit with entirely different rosters.

Green opened the offensive floodgates early, striking three times before the 10-minute mark.

Guest got the scoring started at 5:29, redirecting in a feed from Connor Roberts (Owen Sound, Ont./Grey-Bruce, OMHA), and Damiani made it 2-0 just 1:38 later, picking the top corner over the glove of White goaltender Hunter Jones (Brantford, Ont./Mississauga Reps, GTHL) on a clear-cut breakaway.

Damiani added a second at 9:54, cleaning up a rebound in the slot for a 3-0 advantage, before Brown got White on the board on the power play in the final minute of the opening frame.

White carried more of the play in the second period, outshooting Green 11-6, but couldn’t put a dent in the deficit and actually fell further behind in the middle frame.

Dunkley pushed the Green lead to 4-1 at 8:26, finishing a feed from Dellandrea in the slot, but Tristen Nielsen (Fort St. John, B.C./Edge School, CSSHL) got that back for White just over two minutes later off a set-up from Brown.

Tyler Tucker (Longlac, Ont./Toronto Titans, GTHL) hammered a point shot past Matthew Thiessen (Altona, Man./Pembina Valley, MMAAAHL) late in the second period to give Green back its three-goal lead heading to the second intermission.

Needing a comeback for the ages in the third period, White got back within a pair when Akil Thomas (Toronto, Ont./Toronto Marlboros, GTHL) netted a shorthanded goal just 1:43 into the final stanza, but that would be as close as it got.

A busy final four minutes included four goals; Herauf, Riley Stotts (Winnipeg, Man./Winnipeg Wild, MMAAAHL) – into an empty net – and Dellandrea found the back of the net for Green, while Ryan Chyzowski (Kamloops, B.C./Thompson, BCMML) replied for White.
